Child
Nutrition and Poshan
I-India provides three balanced, nutritious meals a day to the children living in its homes. It also distributes food at the Vocational Training and School on Wheels centres. In
addition to this cross-project service, the organisation is involved
in the Poshan Child Nutrition program in the Tonk District, 100 km
south of Jaipur. I-India provides capacity-building services to 233
Anganwari village health centres. We train and advise staff on the
tracking of malnutrition, thus increasing the effectiveness of the
government’s existing nutrition programme for 0-5 year old children. This program is funded by Unicef and the State of Rajasthan. (PHASED OUT)
From 1996 I-India has been one of 26 members of the Breastfeeding Promotion Network of Rajasthan. The campaign promotes the beneficial effects of breastfeeding and is a great success.
From 1996-2004 I-India participated in the state-wide Janshala Program. The program brought informal education to disadvantaged children living in slums who otherwise would have no chance of going to school. I-India operated 16 schools, serving 700 children every day. The Program was sponsored by the State of Rajasthan and United Nations agencies and discontinued in 2004. (PHASED OUT) |
